Retinal Membrane (Macula Pucker) An Integrated Medical Approach
Dr. Grossman explains that ERM comprises various cell types, including glial cells, retinal pigment epithelial cells, macrophages, and fibrocytes. The degree of visual distortion varies depending on the amount and location of the pucker, which can be assessed using Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). Although ERM typically affects central vision and not peripheral vision, it is often asymptomatic and progresses slowly. The condition is more common in elderly individuals and is associated with other eye issues such as retinal detachment and diabetic retinopathy.
Dr. Grossman suggests that inflammation may play a significant role in the development of ERM, possibly exacerbated by COVID-19 or its vaccine. He recommends an anti-inflammatory diet and supplements like Zyflamend, serrapeptase, and his own Meso Plus formula, which contains carotenoids to support macular health. While traditional medicine may suggest peeling off the scar tissue, Dr. Grossman advocates for natural approaches and consulting a retinal specialist for further advice.
